I hate to fan the fire, but I don't believe using a star is boolean. A boolean search would be using the boolean operatives and, or, not - like "lag and slow"
Using the * is known as truncation.

Typed medium is terrible. Imagine my post coming from Ben Stein. Yeah, that's about the amount of emotion there.
Boolean, Truncation, Catfish, all the same to the unknowing.

We're aware that many players are experiencing increased lag and rubber banding issues. The high number of players in districts is causing increased load on server CPU. There are a few things you can do on your end to try and improve play experience. First let me explain what's going on. Each district of a map is likely to be hosted on a different hardware server. Higher numbered districts are generally going to be newer instances of the map, and will be less likely to have accumulated whatever is slowing down the older/lower numbered districts. Therefore, we strongly suggest that you try different, higher numbered districts, if you're experiencing rubber banding or high pings.
We're also monitoring increased game client crashes, and investigating the issues. Our programmers suggest that trying different/higher number districts might help avoid client crashes.
We'll continue to actively monitor the issues here and continue to take steps to address them.

Actually, it's called a "wildcard"
None of the hints help though, when you can't even connect

No - a wildcard would be l?g to replace a single character. Using a * is replacing more than a single character and is truncation.

Update time. I've been relaying the concerns about disconnects and server issues. There were also some issues with lag on a couple of servers. Two of our programmers have been taking a look at the situation and they've determined that the best way to try and resolve this is to do a new build. The new build will place everyone back into a properly-functioning server when they login. This will happen within the hour. Because it is a holiday, and the offices are closed, you probably won't see the usual Game Update note on the web site. Due to the holiday, will be difficult to get the game update notes localized and turned around quickly, etc.
When you log back in, we anticipate that players will have a more improved experience with regard to the lag, rubber-banding, and connectivity issues. However, we will continue to monitor the issues and address them as we can if the issues persist.
Thanks so much for your understanding, and we apologize for the inconvenience this causes.

No offense intended here but you've been doing updates without giving us update notes this past month anyway? Why should we expect a change...
On a side note...don't say

if search is an accurate response. It is no ones fault except your own that you do not know how to search...and I'm sure if you said you search but it said no results someone would be more then willing to send you a link proving you wrong (cause thats the type of "helpful" people that exist on guru) and quite possibly if they feel like being useful showing you how they got those results if it was different.
Also if there was no emotion like you say then it would be a mute point by now. You would have accepted the answers and left it at that...so sorry but you either have some form of emotion over the matter and are to stupid to relise it...or your just trying to provoke an argument...
However i do agree that the Guru servers do suck and tend to time out alot...
no offense of course again....
On a side side note: I love Regina being completely oblivious to the fact that this thread has almost nothing to do with lagg on the guild wars servers anymore...

Thank you Regina - not so much for the fix - more for you guys actually working as the last day before a holiday winds down. Most of us are only interested in going home and aren't worth much those last few hours.

Took me a few minutes to get it but I think you're referring to "Research_Ass" ? Gotta be careful, that's the kinda thing that could become a nickname real easy.
